Labka : Hackerspace Ostrava

“Labka” is kind of short or familiar name for Laboratory. KA was spell of creation soul of being, in Old Egypt, threfore Lab-Ka. In Slovak language it does mean paw, too.

But what we do really, really?

Hackerspace is community workshop, laboratory and meeting point for all of people willing to learn, teach, investigate, build or program things. Our interests range vary from guerrilla gardening to bitcoin, from microelectronics to welding, from macro to micro, from electricity to medicine. Every single member could have his or hers own project Project[s] and work in cooperation with others or in privacy.

Members do pay monthly fee in about 20 euro [500 CZK] to keep place running voluntary but you can visit us and use space or our know-how free if you wish.

Everyday communication is happening on IRC channel #labka on freenode, by mailing-list and of course you can meet people on physical address. Common language is Czech but we do speak English, too [mostly]. Every Tuesday somebody should be on-site physically physically in Labka and there is supposed to be opened Google Hangouts channel [approx. 18:00-20:00].

Check Calendar, too…

Project[s] are meant to be non-profit and open-source but its just norm not rule. We are not factory and we do things for fun with best intention and pure curiosity.

We are members of CTJB/NTPC/ HackerSpaces.org communities of Czech, Slovak & planet Earth hackers, too.

A hackerspace (also referred to as a hacklab, makerspace or hackspace) is a community-operated workspace where people with common interests, often in computers, machining, technology, science, digital art or electronic art, can meet, socialize and collaborate.

In general, hackerspaces function as centers for peer learning and knowledge sharing, in the form of workshops, presentations, and lectures. They usually also offer social activities for their members, such as game nights and parties. Hackerspaces can be viewed as open community labs incorporating elements of machine shops, workshops, and/or studios where hackers can come together to share resources and knowledge to build and make [or destroy and disassemble] things. ...wikipedia
